At Home

Welcome to Urban Macchiato.

I’ve been wanting to start writing about coffee for a while, so I figured I’d start here.

My name is David, and I’m a coffee enthusiast living in Manhattan. I’m not a barista, roaster, or coffee expert. I’m just someone who really enjoys espresso, café culture, and the process of learning more about something I already love.

Urban Macchiato is my place to share that.

Like a lot of people, I started getting more into coffee at home. At first, I just wanted to make better espresso. Then I started paying more attention to the details: what beans I was using, how I was grinding them, how the shot was pulling, why one drink tasted better than another. It’s one of those hobbies where the more you learn, the more you realize how much there is to learn.

That’s part of what makes it fun.

I also love cafés, especially living in New York. There’s something about coffee shops that has always pulled me in. Some are beautiful and intentional. Some are tiny and chaotic. Some are places you go out of your way for, and some just become part of your routine. But they all have their own personality.

Coffee is simple on the surface, but there’s a lot behind it. The beans, the roast, the grind, the machine, the person making it, the place you’re drinking it, all of that changes the experience. And beyond the drink itself, coffee has this way of fitting into people’s lives. It’s a morning routine, a reason to meet up, a break in the day, or sometimes just a few minutes to yourself.

That’s really what I want this site to be about.

I’ll write about my home espresso setup, cafés I visit, beans I try, gear I use, and things I learn along the way. Some posts will be practical. Some will probably just be me thinking out loud about coffee.

I’m not trying to make coffee more complicated than it needs to be. I’m just interested in it, and I want a place to share that interest.

Cheers.
